Quick Facts - NEIU Facilities
Northeastern Illinois University's beautifully-landscaped 67-acre main campus is located in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood with shops and restaurants a short walk away. The excitement of downtown Chicago's nightlife and business sector are just eight miles away. We are located 20 miles from O'Hare International Airport, and conveniently adjacent to the expressway and public transportation. The main campus is also just minutes from Chicago's beautiful lakefront and beaches.
The main campus has 18 modern buildings including our four-story Library, redesigned Student Union, modern Physical Education Complex, and new state-of-the-art Fine Arts Center.
Our four additional facilities are:
Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS) This center, located at 700 E. Oakwood Blvd. in Chicago, was created to address the concerns of the inner city. It was renamed in 2004 to honor Dr. Jacob H. Carruthers, one of the world's leading experts in classical African civilizations who taught at the Center from 1968 until 2000.
Some students enroll at CCICS to earn their B.A. degree in Inner City Studies. Others take the University’s general education requirements at CCICS and then complete their degree on Northeastern's main campus. Students can also continue their education and pursue an M.A. degree in Inner City Studies Education and/or Educational Leadership/School Leadership/Type 75. CCICS also provides other educational services in cooperation with community institutions and organizations.
El Centro El Centro, located at 3119 N. Pulaski Rd. in Chicago, offers the General Education Program for returning adult and nontraditional students, who then complete their degrees at Northeastern's main campus. This center is also a site for graduate courses in school leadership offered by the College of Education, helping teachers become principals.
Lake County Multi-University Center Courses from eight public and 10 private higher education institutions including NEIU are taught at the Lake County Multi-University Center. Northeastern offers courses from its B.A. in psychology, M.A. in special education and M.A. in educational leadership.
Chicago Teachers' Center Since its founding in 1978, the NEIU College of Education's Chicago Teachers' Center, located at 770 N. Halstead in Chicago, has been an innovator in developing programs to improve education. The Center challenges the educational system to better serve diverse cultural and ethnic populations by creating model programs for teachers and students.
By collaborating closely with teachers, administrators, parents, businesses, and community agencies, the Center provides a wide range of professional development and instructional services at school sites, the Center, and the University. The Center offers professional development programs for teachers, dropout prevention and college bound programs for students, and parent workshops.
