Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at NEIU
WHAT: Northeastern Illinois University has been rated the most diverse campus in the Midwest according to “U.S. News and World Report” rankings. As an element of that diversity NEIU is hosting a campus wide Hispanic Month Celebration that will continue through October 15. Some of the featured events include:
Thursday, October 2 7 – 9 p.m., NEIU Recital Hall Entre Vocesueltas y Desarraigos, An evening of public readings of literary works by famed Hispanic authors and poets, including Raúl Dorantes presenting a dramatization of his short story “Al Final de la Vispera” and a poetry reading by Juanita Goergen from her book “Palabras al Acecho”. Tuesday, October 9 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., NEIU University Commons Latina College Life Tour A celebration of the NEIU Latina college experience. Live music, with fashion make-overs and a runway show. Saturday, October 11 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., NEIU Classroom Building, Room 1001 Language Diversity Symposium: “Does Chicago Speak my Language?” Forum for parents, teachers, students, and ethnic organizations to share experiences on the richness and value of their native language.
10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., NEIU Classroom Building, Room 1002 S.A.L.S.A.—Spanish Award-winning Literature Seminar for All Presentation and discussion of Hispanic fiction and non-fiction books Pre K through 8th grade.
