Green Week at NEIU

Green Week at NEIU
WHAT: The Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Green Cycle Group will kick off the 2008 fall semester with an entire week of activities. From Monday, September 29 through Friday, October 3, Green Week will include seminars and workshops on topics such as responsible recycling, energy conservation and optimum efficiency practices, as well as ventures to clean Illinois lakes and waterways. The week will culminate with students participating in a community service project to clean Gompers Park, which is near the University’s main campus. All events are free and open to the public. Some of the featured events include:
Monday, September 29 3 – 4 p.m., NEIU Recital Hall Keynote Address – Karen Hobbs, First Deputy Commissioner, Chicago Department of Environment
Tuesday, September 30 2 – 3 p.m., NEIU University Commons Bike Commuting 101 This workshop will provide tips on how to be safe and successful with this cost effective, green mode of transportation.
Wednesday, October 1 2 – 3 p.m., NEIU Village Square Compost and Container Gardening Workshop This workshop will include demonstrations on how to compost with worms and create a container garden.
1 and 5 p.m., NEIU Student Union, Room 215 The Low Carbon Diet This presentation will teach simple lifestyle changes that will help to reduce human carbon dioxide output.
Thursday, October 2 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Village Square, Student Union Green Opportunities and Volunteer Fair The primary purpose of this event is to promote both employment and volunteer opportunities to those seeking jobs, internships or volunteer work in organizations that promote green values.
