Woman Scientist Ahead of her Time 140th Birth Anniversary of Marie Curie Celebrated at NEIU Part of NEIU’s 10th Annual Polish American Heritage Celebration

WHAT: Marie Sklodowska-Curie (1867 – 1934), a physicist and chemist of Polish upbringing is being celebrated at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) as part of the 10th annual Polish American Heritage Celebration.
Curie was the first to win the Nobel Prize twice and was also the first female professor at the University of Paris. A pioneer in radioactivity, Curie named polonium, the first new chemical element that she discovered, after her native Poland.
EVENTS: Wednesday, November 6
Movie screening: Ronald Williams Library, 4th Floor Language Lab, 6 p.m.
· “Madame Curie” (1943, 1hr. 53 min, in English), based on the book by Eve Curie, daughter of Madame Curie. Introduction by Czeslawa Kolak, Polish language instructor, Foreign Languages and Literatures, NEIU.
