NEIU Professor Receives Brommel Distinguished Research Award
Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Professor Sarah Lucia Hoagland, philosophy and women’s studies, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Bernard J. Brommel Distinguished Research Award. The award, which includes $5,000, will be publicly presented to Hoagland at NEIU’s Commencement Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May, 3 on campus.
A seven-member NEIU committee selected three finalists after careful consideration of a bibliography of their works and nomination letters submitted by their colleagues. The finalists’ scholarly research and creative works were then evaluated by the committee and a group of external peer reviewers. In addition to Hoagland, this year’s finalists were Zhonggang Zeng, mathematics, and Elyse mach, music.
Dr. Bernard J. Brommel, professor emeritus, communication, media and theatre, established this award to be given annually to the tenured/tenured-track member of the NEIU faculty who best demonstrates excellence in research and scholarship. The award is being presented this year for the third time.
