Ensemble Español Presents “Flamenco Passion” Gala Performances
WHAT: Highlighting the 32nd annual American Spanish Dance Festival, Ensemble Español Center for Spanish Dance & Music, in residence at Northeastern Illinois University, will present “Flamenco Passion,” gala concerts of Spanish music and dance. Ensemble Español’s full company of 40 dancers and musicians will be joined by international guest artists from Spain, including Carmela Greco, daughter of the legendary José Greco; Cristian Lozano and Paloma Gomez, former principals of the National Ballet of Spain; as well as Flamenco singers, guitarists and a percussionist.

DETAILS: The program will include the U.S. premiere of “La Union” by guest artist Carmela Greco, who has dedicated this work to her father, Jose Greco, who was internationally famous for his performances on stage and the big screen. Two world premieres also will be featured: “Escencia” by Dame Libby Komaiko, founder and artistic director, Ensemble Español, and “No Me Olvides” by Irma Suarez Ruiz, associate artistic director, Ensemble Español. Komaiko’s full-company will open the concert with “Suite Albéniz” and close with their signature work, “Bolero,” presented with Picasso paintings and drawings as backdrops.
