Ensemble Español Center for Spanish Dance & Music Presents the 2008 American Spanish Dance Festival
Chicago – Ensemble Español Center for Spanish Dance & Music, in residence at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), will present the 32nd annual American Spanish Dance Festival from June 18 through 30 on NEIU’s main campus and throughout the Chicagoland area. This year’s festival highlights include an exhibition of Spanish sculpture and paintings, a Flamenco music concert, Spanish dance and music classes, a cocktail reception, and three gala performances by the full company of dancers and international guest artists.
Spanish Painting and Sculpture Exhibition Wednesday, June 18 – Friday, July 18 Featuring Yolanda Blanco, sculptor from Madrid, and Ana Maria Llestin, painter from Valencia Sabbia Fine Jewelry Boutique, 66 E. “Flamenco Passion” Gala Performances Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 29 at 3 p.m. Ensemble Español’s full company of 40 dancers with guest artists from Spain Carmela Greco, daughter of the legendary José Greco; and Cristian Lozano and Paloma Gomez, former principals of the National Ballet of Spain; as well as guest Flamenco singers, guitarists and a percussionist. The program will include the world premiere of “No Me Olvides” by Irma Suarez Ruiz and “Escencia” by Dame Libby Komaiko.
