National Report Shows High Number of Ethnically
Diverse Students Earn Master’s Degrees from NEIU
CHICAGO – Northeastern Illinois University is among the top universities in the United States in the number of post-baccalaureate degrees earned by students of diverse ethnic backgrounds, according to Diverse - Issues in Higher Education’s annual publication of the “Top Degree Producers 2008.”
Northeastern Illinois University’s national rankings, provided by 2006-2007 preliminary U.S. Department of Education data, are as follows:
- Number of master’s degrees earned in Ethnic, Cultural and Gender Studies by African Americans: 1st
- Number of master’s degrees earned in Ethnic, Cultural and Gender Studies by all minorities: 4th
- Number of master’s degrees earned in Mathematics and Statistics by Asian Americans: 25th
- Number of master’s degrees earned in Mathematics and Statistics by all minorities: 31st
- Number of master’s degrees earned in Social Science and History by African Americans: 47th
- Number of master’s degrees earned in Education by Hispanics: 49th
There are 4,314 degree-granting institutions in the United States according to the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics.
