Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Celebration at NEIU
WHAT: Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) will pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a keynote address by award-winning author Lea Williams titled “Service Above Self: The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.” This address will be followed by a roundtable discussion called “Afterword: Servant Leaders in the King Years,” a performance by NEIU’s Black Heritage Gospel Choir, and a book signing by Williams for the second release of her book “Servants of the People: The 1960s Legacy of African American Leadership.”
This event is free and open to the public.
WHEN: Thursday, January 15, 9:25 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Northeastern Illinois University Auditorium 5500 N. St. Louis Ave. in Chicago (Use campus entrance located at 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.)
DETAILS: Lea Williams, associate vice chair of academic affairs, North Carolina A&T State University, will give a keynote address at this event, which will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Lea Williams is an independent scholar who lectures on African-American leadership during the Civil Rights Movement; has written numerous articles and journals for such publications as Black Collegian, Journal of Black Studies and Black Issues in Higher Education; and was vice president of the United Negro College Fund for 11 years.
