Northeastern Illinois University Supplements CPS "Children First" Plan with Afternoon Activities for Children of NEIU Students and Employees
CHICAGO – Due to the Chicago Teachers Union strike, Northeastern Illinois University will provide an alternative option for CPS students who are children of NEIU students and employees.
The Chicago Public Schools has created a "Children First" plan, which will provide alternative options for children during the morning hours. Additionally, many community organizations are offering a safe place for children to stay throughout the day. Click here for the most up-to-date information provided by CPS about these options.
Northeastern Illinois University will be supplementing this plan with afternoon activities limited to children of NEIU students and employees who are in class. These activities will be available from noon through 3:15 p.m. and be held on the main campus, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave. in Chicago.
Children ages 5-8 are invited to participate in age-appropriate activities and a movie in Alumni Hall. Children ages 9-13 are invited to participate in organized recreational activities in the P.E. Complex. Please do the following to register a child for NEIU's afternoon activities:
- Parents should complete the registration form here.
- Parents should bring this completed form when they drop off their children at the locations specified above.
- Parents need to show their NEIU ID card in order to register their children.
