Governor Quinn Appoints Garcia to NEIU Board of Trustees
Chicago – Marvin Garcia, director, Praxis Project, Alternative Schools Network, has been appointed by Governor Pat Quinn to serve as a member of the Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Board of Trustees. Garcia’s appointment became effective December 29, 2009. A date has not been set for Senate confirmation.
Garcia joined the NEIU Board of Trustees with extensive experience in educational leadership. Since 2001 he has served as director of Praxis Project, which is the professional development arm of the Alternative Schools Network of Chicago. Previously, he taught and for 17 years served as principal of Pedro Albizu Campos High School in Chicago.
His demonstrated commitment to the community includes participation as a council member to the ENLACE program at NEIU; a member of the advisory committee for NEIU’s educational leadership department; a member of the advisory committee for the Chicago Center; board president of Pedro Albizu Campos High School; board member of ASPIRA of Illinois; and a member of steering committees at the Ada S. McKinley Academy and the Illinois College Teacher Preparation Program.
Garcia earned a B.A. in history from Northeastern Illinois University, an M.A. in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University, and an M.A. in adult education from National-Louis University.
