Equity in Action Conference "Immigrant Students in Higher Education." Wednesday, October 10, 2007 6:00-7:00pm This workshop will provide statistics of the immigrant college student population in the U.S. and in the state of Illinois, including the Illinois in-state tuition law, HB 60. In addition, it will discuss college admissions and financial aid resources for immigrant students in higher education. (Open to the public)
Latino Scholar Series: Mi Voz, Mi Vida: Latino College Students Tell Their Life Stories. Christina Gomez, Associate Professor of Sociology NEIU Thursday, October 11, 2007 6:00- 7:15pm Dr. Gómez will discuss her latest book entitled Mi Voz, Mi Vida: Latino College Students tell their Life Stories. The book highlights Latino college students’personal struggles with issues such as identity, biculturalism, family dynamics,religion, poverty, stereotypes, and the value of education. The Latino Scholar Series at NEIU-El Centro showcases contributions made by Latinos in higher education.

Mexico en Mil Colores (A Thousand Colors) Exhibit NEIU-El Centro October 29-Nov 2, 2007 Mexico as seen through the lenses of Mexican photographer, Claudia Zamudio Mainou. This exhibit illustrates Mexico’s crafts, foods, colorful textures, and landscapes that serve as an inspiration for its art. Also featured, el Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Photography Exhibit and Altar. (Exhibit open to the public). Reception to be held Thursday, November 1st at 6:00pm.
