Student Rights and Responsibility
This Collection Policy Applies To:
- Any student (past or present) with amounts due to the University
- The personnel responsible for administration of the University policy
- Any private counsel or private collection agency employed by the University for the purpose of debt collection
Student Account Rights and Responsibilities Each student has the following rights and responsibilities with respect to his/her financial affairs with the UNIVERSITY
Student Rights:
- To be informed of the nature and amount of the charges incurred
- To have adequate time to make payment of those same charges
- To have access to his/her student accounts record
- To petition for removal of charges due to hardship with the student billing committee
- To be informed of the nature and amount of the charges incurred
- To dispute charges he/she believes to be in error
- To have the confidentiality of his/her student account protected
- To be notified of any impending collection action
- To be treated with respect and be free from harassment.
- To have access to all policies governing his/her student account with the University
Student Responsibilities:
- To read & adhere to all published procedures and policies
- To insure payment of all charges legitimately incurred by the published payment due date, even if payment is to be made by another party
- To insure that his/her billing address is correct
- To notify the University if no billing statement is received
- To submit disputes of charges and hardship petitions in writing within the published grace period
- To conduct all financial affairs in a legal and ethical manner, and
- If applicable, to pay all penalties, legal fees and costs associated with collection of his/her student account
