Homework #4 (Due February 24, 2004)
Sanders
Hand in one homework assignment per group. Clearly show which
group role was filled by each group member.
1) Measuring Hydraulic
Conductivity: Complete the permeameter measurements that
you began in lab on February 17th. (Measure the hydraulic
conductivity of three sediment samples in all.) Hand in your
group lab report in the format described on the permeameter
lab handout you received
in class.
2) Siphons: On the handout
showing buckets and tubes, for each situation, tell whether or not
water would flow through the tube from one bucket to the other. Assume the tube is filled with water at
the beginning of each experiment! Show direction of flow,
if any. In the space given, design and solve a siphon problem of
your own. Finally, come up with the general rule that you can use
in the future to determine if water will flow through a siphon.
Note: please feel free to use buckets and tubes, available in the lab,
to test out your hypotheses.
