Dr. Sanders
By the end of
today’s class, you should be able to do the
following:
Plate Tectonics
and Rocks
*
List the three major classes of rocks, and explain how they form.
* For each of the three major classes of rocks, tell in what
plate tectonic setting they are most likely to form.
Minerals
* Explore the sedimentary rock-forming minerals. Examine the
mineral samples in the following groups. Explore and
describe the properties of each mineral, and determine what each group
has in common. Finally, assign a name to each mineral using a
mineral key.
First Group:
# 7, 17, 19, 20, 40,
43
Second
Group:
# 2, 18, 30, 46
Third Group (if you have time): # 14, 33, 34, 44
