Volcanism in the Ring of Fire (ESCI 325Z)

Course includes a two week field trip to the North Island of New Zealand.

When?            Course is offered TR evenings 5:40-6:55 p.m. during the Spring Semester.  The trip is March 11-26, 2005.

How Much?    Beyond tuition for the course, cost of the trip is $2460.  Includes airfare, transportation in New Zealand, lodging and costs of activities.

How do I sign up?  The due date is past, and the course is full, but for future reference:

We'll spend the first two days in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city.
 
 
 
 
Tongariro National Park

Three very different volcanoes in one explosive area.

We’ll hike through, ride quad bikes around, and fly over this beautiful national park.

We'll spend lots of time in the volcanically active Taupo Volcanic Zone, including four days at Tongariro National Park.

We'll take a boat ride out to an active volcanic island; hard hats and gas masks are provided by the tour operator!
 
 
 
 
Cathedral Cove 
   Paddle a kayak to see thick pyroclastic deposits..... 
                  .....and enjoy some time on the beach.

Near the end of the trip, we'll take a sea kayak tour to see ignimbrites at scenic Cathedral Cove on the Coromandel peninsula.
