By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:

v Distinguish between some common sedimentary minerals that are clear and colorless when pure (quartz, calcite, halite, gypsum) on the basis of their physical properties.

v Define "specific gravity," explain how it related to density, and be able to calculate the spedific gravity of a mineral sample using a balance.

v Define "crystal form" and be able to recognize the number of forms that a crystal exhibits.
