Professor Hoberg received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. His dissertation is in the area of Nineteenth Century Literary and Intellectual History, so it is only to be expected that his abiding interests are in the Arthurian Legend, and the novels of Jane Austen, in neither of which he teaches courses.

His putative areas of pedagogical specialization are Romantic and Victorian Literature and Culture, Restoration and Eighteenth Century ditto (the latter a recent attachment formed out of curricular necessity, but now solidly rooted in admiration and affection) and--when he can get away with it, which is quite a lot, Folklore and Legend, Fantasy, and Mythology. He also likes Science Fiction a lot, and used to teach a course in it, but it was removed from the books several years age in an administrative purge. It is not beyond the realm of possibility, were sufficient interest displayed in its revival, that it might someday ride again.

Otherwise Professor Hoberg teaches the following courses, some more frequently that others (in addition, of course, to Writing I, Writing II, and Eng. 203 and 204, which everyone undertakes more or less regularly):

English 218: American Literature, Beginnings to 1865 (catalog description)
