Professor Byard studied Rhetoric and Composition at Purdue University, from which she received her MA (1985) and PhD (1993). She authored the Instructor’s Resource Manual for both the first and second editions of the Allyn & Bacon Guide to Writing. She is currently writing a book entitled Bibliographic Research in Composition Studies.
Dr. Byard began teaching at NEIU in 1991. She regularly teaches first-year and upper-level writing courses, as well as graduate-level rhetoric courses. In addition, she mentors and supervises graduate assistants who teach English 101. She is Activity Co-Director of a $2.5 million Title V federal grant that NEIU has received to improve students’ writing abilities through both first-year composition courses and writing-intensive courses in the disciplines. In this grant capacity, from January 2008-May 2012, she will serve as Coordinator of the First-Year Writing Program at NEIU.
