Clubs and Activities

The department has many interesting clubs and activities. We co-sponsored "Wild Things" conference in 2005 at NEIU along with several prominent organizations. The department maintains a GIS project of all trees and woody shrubs on campus, for Facilities Management.

The GeoManiacs, a G&ES club, sponsored a number of events including burning the campus prairies in 2004. View some exciting photos and panoramas of the burn at this link: PRAIRIE BURN.

The Green Cycle Group is founded in the department but invites other NEIU students to participate as well. The club works with admnistrators, faculty, and staff to promote environmentally sound practices on campus an in the surrounding community. Recycling, bicycle parking, and other issues have been taken up recently. For more information, or to join the club, check the web page: Green Cycle Group
