Chicago Academic Standard: Solve real world problems which require addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by appropriate strategies, such as using manipulatives, estimation, mental computation, paper and pencil. Curriculum Framework Statement: Perform the operation of addition and subtraction in related story problems. Activity: Using gingerbread men cutouts the children create their own story problems. Materials: gingerbread men cutouts, paper, pencil, crayons Writing Connection: Students write a story problem and a story about their word problems. |
