As a partner in the CLC project Roosevelt
University's College of Education was linked with two Chicago Public
Schools: McCosh Elementary and Price Elementary. Six faculty members worked
with teams of teachers at the two schools over the course of the project.
Dr. George Diamond, Michelle Corrazzo and Alonza Everage were linked with
Price School, mainly in support of the arts integrated curriculum project.
Drs. Brigitte Erbe and Steve Cohen worked with the math team at McCosh
while Dr. Toni Potenza worked with the Primary Language Arts team. Besides
working with the school teams, faculty partners made forum presentations
on a variety of standards-based educational strategies and practices.
These faculty members met on a regular basis with the
College dean, Dr. George Olson, and the Roosevelt CLC school coordinator,
not only to discuss the progress and challenges of the project work at
each school but also to reflect on how CLC activities affected their own
teaching in the university setting and the College's overall preservice
program. In particular, the group addressed issues related to preservice
placements at the project schools.
Roosevelt's relationship with McCosh has continued in
new forms. In the year following the end of the CLC project the College
of Education launched META, a pilot preservice program. McCosh, along with
a suburban school, will serve as a center for clinical observations and
student teaching placements for students in the new program. Several teachers
from McCosh are part of the advisory board for the program
In addition, the number of preservice placements at McCosh
has increased since the end of the CLC project as a result of the close
working relationship developed through the CLC experience. These placements
enhance the educational experiences of both the university students and
the McCosh learning community.
